TLDR: The battle mechanics have changed. You might need to adjust your strategy. What worked before might not work anymore. Good luck!
200 Kani in and the Kani World battle mechanics are ready to evolve. The next evolution will not necessarily be the last but will improve on the logic from the previous version. Hopefully, this will help to explain some of the changes.
Base Stats
There is no change to the base set of stats, they will remain the same except for the cost of buffing stamina and appeal will be increased. Stamina will be increased to 100 (the original price) and appeal will be increased to 75.
Battle Stats
The stats specific to battles are being handled differently during the battles. In the previous version, if a stat was decreased that would also decrease the effectiveness of the special associated with the stat. For example, Shell Shock special would decrease in power as the Kani lost hit points. To solve this all stats that can change in value during a battle have been split into battle-specific attributes. When a Kani is in battle it will have the base stats (that don’t change) and modifiable stats. To use the previous example, during a battle a Kani will now have a stamina stat and a hit point stat. The hit point value is derived from stamina and will decrease as the Kani takes damage, but the stamina stat won’t change during the battle. When the Kani uses Shell Shock it will use the value from the stamina stat that hasn’t decreased. Other stats that have been separated in this way include power (attack) and wrestle (defense).
Special Move Reroll
Players will now be able to reroll the special move associated with their Kani. The reroll will change from the current special to 1 of the other specials. The reroll will automatically update the arc69 data and as such, will require a fee in Kani Coin. The fee will increment with each attempt at rerolling. The roll will randomly select 1 of the other specials for your Kani but doesn’t track previous selections. It is possible to roll from Shell Shock to Power Claw and then again back to Shell Shock. (This feature might not be live at the time of the new battle mechanics)
New Special Move
The speed stat now has a special move. The special name is Rapid Strike, and it will only be available through rerolling a Kani’s special move. Hopefully, this will make for some more build variety.
Special Move Additional Ability
The special move has always dealt additional damage equal to the stat corresponding stat for the special and now added to this, the special moves will also have additional abilities. These abilities are finalized for this version of the battle mechanics and may/will change in future evolutions.
Power Claw – Increases the base hit roll damage
Crab Grab – Increases the base block roll damage
Shell Shock – Reset fatigue
Shell Shine – Stuns opponent for 1 move (Stunned players have a less effective block, or are unable to attack)
Rapid Strike – Reduces the delay to the next special move
Fatigue and Stamina
The price of stamina is returning to the original price of 100 scum because the functionality of the stat is now significantly more important. Stamina will play a role in how quickly a Kani fatigues. There are 3 ways fatigue will affect a Kani attack, defense, and endurance.
- Attack: A Kani will need the stamina to maintain the attack ability. If a Kani has a very high attack, but low stamina it will not be able to maintain the attack and over time the attack will diminish to a sustainable level.
- Defense: Similar to “attack” a Kani will be unable to sustain a high defense level if they do not have the stamina to support it.
- Endurance: Kani now suffers endurance in two ways. All Kani fatigue at the end of a round (one turn of attacking and defending). In addition, Kani which fully blocks an incoming attack with also suffers fatigue as a result of mitigating all incoming damage. When a Kani’s fatigue level becomes too high, the Kani will become exhausted. An exhausted Kani will either have a reduced ability to defend or miss an opportunity to attack.
This is unlikely to be the last evolution of the battle mechanics, but I’ll try to keep changes to a minimum unless any major unbalance appears. Enjoy the fun of reworking your strategies.
